My Stream Provides Digital Customer Engagement in the Online Shop

02. Sep 2019 | Tatiana Solarte 0:00

Ettlingen, 2 September 2019 - At DMEXCO 2019 from 11 to 12 September, epoq will present its new offering "My Stream" for the first time - an individual shopping area for every customer in the online shop. This consists of type-related content, personalised product recommendations, interactive product finders as well as relevant content recommendations, depending on the customer's preferences. "With My Stream, online shop operators create a digital experience for their customers. Through AI-based elements, such as individualised product sets or interesting blog posts, an emotional connection is built. The customised content, which is played out in real time, encourages customers to return," says AI expert and CEO of epoq, Thorsten Mühling. The content and layout of the various My Stream elements change dynamically - depending on the customer's behaviour. In the process, epoq also relies on interaction. The customer can browse brands as well as product categories and the products narrow down interactively.

My Stream will soon be used for the first time in the online shop of the Outletcity Metzingen. The Outletcity is the best-known and oldest outlet centre in Germany and has relied on its own online shop from an early stage.

My Stream is based on a consistent knowledge base: it avoids disappointment and frustration when shopping online.

The technology behind the new product strengthens digital customer loyalty and thus the customer’s repurchase rate. epoq contributes its many years of AI experience and expertise to My Stream. A consistent knowledge base is created for each customer, which collects data along the customer journey and makes it available for the intelligent algorithms. My Stream contains components of the existing personalisation products of epoq (Search, Advise, Inspire, Connect), which have been interconnected on a new level to meet the demands of online shoppers. The consistent knowledge base ensures that no compatibility problems arise. The global database is important to avoid data silos that only take into account individual touchpoints and do not use cross-connections. In this way, the online shop operator avoids disappointment and frustration, which are still far too common in e-commerce: For example, a recommended discounted T-shirt in the sale, but which is no longer available in the customer’s size, e.g. “L”, but only in “XS”. A place where customers can reliably find their favourite items without having to enter their own preferences each time saves time and at the same time also avoids complexity in an ever-growing range of products. Directly from the personal shopping area, customers can access their desired items and place them in the shopping cart.

At the same time, epoq is fully compliant with the European Data Protection Directives and protects the privacy of each individual customer.

Sustainable shopping experience: Why digital customer loyalty matters

Given the increasing variety of products and shops, online shops today need to stand out from the crowd more than ever. Digital customer loyalty can only develop when the customer finds more than just suitable product information in the shop. “With a personalised shopping area with content tailored to the online shopper, the customer receives a positive and special experience. The right mix of entertainment and service provides the slight difference that keeps the customer and binds them to the shop in the long term,” says Thorsten Mühling.

In addition to personalised product and content recommendations, online shoppers can also be inspired by interactive product finders and always keep their finger on the pulse. Because people are now influenced by apps and services such as Netflix, Pinterest or Instagram and place a lot of value on both browsing and personalised content. This means that My Stream can be used intuitively by online shoppers right from the start.
